011. Wakeup call

We have been disturbed during the night by a number of showers. Rain means we need to close our hatches making conditions onboard unbearably hot. It’s 6.37am and I have slept in.

I can hear new neighbours have arrived on the dock beside us and are being unbearably loud and enthusiastic buoyed by there journey’s end. At the same time I get Skyped by my dad, the noise of the call ringing through the boat. I hope Al is already up.

I accept the Skype not realising it is a video call and I am in a state of undress. “Are you sunbathing?” was the first thing my dad has to say. Exercising restraint I remind him of the time difference.

After breakfast Al takes the parts of the last winch to the cruised workshop to make use of the vise and workbench it provides.

I finish a few boat jobs I have been set and then go to check on Al to see how he is getting on.

Deja vu

The last winch refuses our attempts to free its gears. It is well and truly stuck. We prudently decide that this will be job better performed by our engine mechanic who is due to arrive on Monday. He should have all the required tools to achieve the task.

We avoid the worst of the heat of the day separately. I take brief respite in the air conditioned gym. We meet back on board for lunch. Around 4pm it begins to cool and I climb into the cockpit locker to empty it. We sort through and tidy up the various lines and pieces of equipment so we know what we have and it is all ready to use.

The American’s on the boat that has arrived on the next dock are flying their flag. Could this be why Al decides it is the day to raise our own flag, the glorious Red Ensign. Al rejoices in the fact that our flag is considerably bigger than theirs.
